Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland during a graduation speech last spring noted that we are living through an inflection point and defined it as; “a time of transformation that comes once every five or six generations”.
Why, they're "progressing" towards a "better democracy". Everything they do is to 'save democracy'. In their minds anyway.
Progressivism has become a euphemism for authoritarianism. It has no regard for the established (classical) liberal institutions of the West. Which makes Freeland's - in all her vapid sloppy scolding sophistry of nebulous nonsense - speech all the more bizarre. if you listen closely she's saying liberal democracy and its capitalistic economic system ostensibly rooted in free and voluntary trade (but really operates in a box of cronyism) can't rise to the challenge she invented in her head.
Freeland already gave a test of her visions on how to proceed through the Emergencies Act. She made loud and clear at POEC where he "principles" lie. The law is too pesky to follow when there's an 'emergency' for example. Therefore, we must be "agile" and circumnavigate it. She's taking the theory of the "state of exception" and running with it playing Calvin Ball.
These people are Marxistst - by other means. I say this because they don't have the courage to admit that's what they are.
In the minute that I could stomach listening to freakland it didn’t sound like an endearing crowd. As much as I detest her and Trudeau I kinda feel pity.
Honestly, I think that the so-called progressives in power are moving us backward instead of forward. There is no progress in mandating lockdowns which destroyed peoples’ lives, businesses, and property while giving free rein to criminals. They are taking us back to Soviet-style dictatorship. They’ve broken more than a few eggs to make their disgusting omelet. I hope they choke on it.
You know, that remark I made about choking was not kind. I’ve asked God to forgive me, and I hope you will forgive me too for putting that vile comment on your post.
I was inspired to write my own post on 'progressive' by your great article. I thought this particularly well said.
"It is my contention, that many in the progressive movement have been a part of it simply for the good jobs and pay. teachers, doctors, nurses, judges, politicians and many more followers of the movement, have all been cashing in. For more than 30yrs being “progressive” was good. Good for life and for business. Mostly because it did not directly affect those implementing the programs. For example, cities that implemented progressive drug policies have declined. While the Progressives (the people) who implemented the programs have simply moved away to better neighborhoods to escape the mess they created. However, under lockdown, they were directly affected, unable to escape, and the price for many was too high. They gave up their humanity (their genetic identity) to go back to the way things were before the pandemic."

What if that is what it actually means to be progressive?
They appear to be all about control, not freedom.
